Privacy Policy

Pars is a trip expense-splitting app for friend groups. It is made and run by Kim Roland Berame, an individual developer in the Philippines (“we”, “us”). This policy explains what we collect when you use the Pars app for iOS and Android, why we collect it, who can see it, and what you can do about it.
The short version: we keep only what the app needs to split costs between you and your friends. We don’t show ads, we don’t use analytics or tracking tools, and we never sell or rent your data. Pars never moves money, so we never see your card, bank login or e-wallet PIN.
What we collect
| What | Examples | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Account | Your email address, and the ID Apple or Google gives us when you sign in with them | To sign you in and keep your account yours |
| Profile | Your display name and profile photo | So friends recognize you in trips |
| Trips | Trip names, dates and vibe, the people in each trip, the invite codes and links, and the email addresses people are invited with | To run shared trips and let friends join |
| Expenses | Titles, amounts, categories, merchants, notes, who paid, how it was split, and receipt photos you attach or scan | To work out who owes whom |
| Settlements | Amounts, payment method (GCash, Maya, bank, cash or offset), notes and proof-of-payment photos | To record that someone paid someone back |
| Payout methods | Provider, account name, account number and QR image for the bank or e-wallet you want to be paid to | So friends who owe you know where to send money |
| Notifications | Your device’s push token, platform, and your notification settings | To send nudges and trip activity |
| Activity | A log of trip events (expenses added or edited, settlements, nudges, joins) | To show each trip’s activity feed |
| Technical logs | IP address, device and app version, request times and errors, recorded automatically by our hosting and email providers when the app talks to our servers or we send you an email | To keep the service running, secure it and fix problems. These logs are kept for a short time and deleted on the providers’ schedule. |
| Feedback | Whatever you write when you email us, plus the app version and operating system the app adds to a feedback email | To answer you and fix what you report |
We don’t collect your contacts or precise location, and we don’t track you across other apps or websites. The camera and photo library are only used when you choose to take or pick a photo.
Who can see your data
- People in your trips see that trip’s members, expenses, receipt photos, settlements, proof-of-payment photos and activity. They see your display name and profile photo.
- Your payout methods are shown only to people who owe you money in a trip you share, and only while “Show on settle-up” is on in your profile. Turning it off hides them.
- Your sign-in email address is not shown to other members. If someone invites you to a trip by email, that address is saved with your place in the trip, and the trip’s members can see it, including after you join.
- We can access stored data to run, secure and fix the service. We look at it only when needed for that, or when the law requires it.
Service providers
We use a few companies to run Pars. They process data on our behalf and only to provide their service:
- Supabase hosts our database, sign-in and file storage (photos and QR images).
- Resend sends sign-in code emails.
- Expo and Apple Push Notification service deliver push notifications.
- Apple and Google handle Sign in with Apple and Google sign-in when you choose them.
These providers may store and process data outside the Philippines. We pick providers that protect data with industry-standard security, including encryption in transit.
We may also disclose data if the law requires it, or to protect the rights, property or safety of our users or the public.
How long we keep it
We keep your data for as long as you have an account. You can delete your account at any time from Profile → Delete account. See Delete your account for what’s removed and what stays.
Because trips are shared, some records belong to your friends as much as to you. When you delete your account, your name stays on the expenses and settlements in trips you shared, so your friends’ balances and history still add up. Your email, photo, sign-in, payout methods and push tokens are removed, and you’re no longer linked to those trips. Trips where you were the only signed-in member are deleted entirely, with their photos.
Security
Data travels over encrypted connections. Your sign-in session is stored encrypted on your device. Photos are stored privately and are only shown through short-lived links to people allowed to see them, apart from profile photos, which are public so they can load quickly. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your data and will tell you about a breach that affects you as the law requires.
Your rights
Under the Philippine Data Privacy Act of 2012 (Republic Act No. 10173), you have the right to be informed, to access your data, to object, to have it corrected, erased or blocked, to data portability, and to file a complaint. To use any of these rights, email us at beramekimrol@gmail.com. You can correct your name and photo in the app, and delete your account there too.
If you believe we’ve mishandled your data, you can file a complaint with the National Privacy Commission.
Children
Pars is not meant for children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect their data. If you think a child has given us data, email us and we’ll delete it.
Changes
If we change this policy, we’ll update the date at the top. If a change is significant, we’ll tell you in the app before it takes effect.
